Org. Setting and Reporting

The Information Service of the United Nations Office at Geneva internship is for a period of three to six months depending on the needs of the service.

The internship is unpaid and full-time.

The position is located in the TV and Radio Section of the United Nations Information Service in Geneva, under the overall supervision of the Chief Radio and TV. Daily tasking on news and content production issues takes place under the guidance and supervision of one of the Section’s News/Features/Multimedia content Producers.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the intern will be responsible for the following duties:

Support UNTV and UN News/Multimedia content producers with research on newsworthy events at the United Nations/Palais des Nations and more broadly in International Geneva; organise interviews for UNTV productions, spots and series (SDG Studio, “Geneva Witness” or other features, anniversaries/campaigns, etc.), and other video content as required. Under the guidance of a producer the interview may coordinate with interviewees, help conduct interviews, edit clips, and liaise UN Geneva social media focal point for distribution.

Support Chief of Section in drafting proposals, collecting and presenting data, organizing meetings, coordinating follow-up.

Attend UN Geneva press briefings and produce media content – under the supervision and guidance of a UN producer -- by editing news clips, compiling shotlists and assisting in the production of transcripts, subtitles and/or storylines on tight deadlines.

Pre-edit newsworthy coverage of press conferences, stakeouts, events and conferences at the Palais des Nations for web, broadcast or social media distribution, under the guidance of (and for approval by) a producer.

Support the section’s work with research, presentations material, data input, and perform other tasks as required by the Chief of Section.

Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from different national and cultural backgrounds to achieve organizational goals.
Planning and Organizing: Identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required; allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work; uses time efficiently.

Education

A first university degree in journalism, communications, international relations, history or related field.

Work Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. Are you a student in Bachelor's (final year), Master's or Ph D. Programme or quivalent, or have you completed a degree and are able to commence an internship within a year of graduation? Will you be able to cover the cost of travel, accomodation, health insurance and other living expenses for the duration of the internship? Are any of your siblings, children or parents employed by the United Nations Secretariat ? Are you a student in Bachelor's (final year) Master's or Ph D. Programme or equivalent, or have you completed a degree and are able to commence an internship within a year of graduation?

Languages

Fluency in either English or French (oral and written) is required, with working knowledge of the other language desirable.

United Nations Considerations

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
